Cuban Salsa: Go contra after multiple turns

A social dance should have a good balance of right and left turns. When we have multiple turns after one another, in one direction, it is often necessary immediately to go contra to prevent the Follow from getting dizzy or to help her recover from beginning dizziness.

Even if the Follow doesn’t need to go contra it is often a good idea anyway. The dance benefits from the alteration and it assures the Follow that the Lead will look after here special needs when necessary.

Enchufla Continuado

In this tutorial we will use Enchufla Continuado with nine turns as example. I only use it if there is a fair chance that the Follow can do it and I don’t take any chances with such a demanding Continuado. First I start testing if the Follow can do proper double turns. Next I test if the Follow can do Enchufla Continuado with five turns.

If the Follow demonstrates that she knows the concept of Enchufla Continuado and that she can easily do five turns, I most often decide just to give her another Enchufla Continuado with five turns later in the dance. Only if my experience tells me that this Follow deserves to be given an Enchufla Continuado with nine turns, do I give it a try.

Go Contra

The easiest way to go contra after Enchufla Continuado is to do Exhíbela a couple of times. That is the method I use in the first two video clips. In the last video clip I give the Follow a free Vacilala. A third option is to give the Follow a Vacilala Double.

Enchufla Continuado tutorial

Enchufla Continuado is not easy. I couldn’t find any good tutorials so it took me and my training partners years to learn it. I have made my own tutorial: Cuban Salsa: Enchufla Continuado.
